Destiny Detours Part 2
Life doesn’t always unfold the way we planned. Sometimes the path that looks like a detour turns out to be our real destination. We’ve seen a thread that runs through every season of struggle:
God wastes nothing.
Even in setbacks, even in heartbreak, He’s still working in our lives. He’s still fully engaged. From the conversation with Lenny McAllister—his story of rising above challenge, uncertainty, and moments that could have defined him—we’re reminded that what looks like a setback can become the foundation for a second act. A better one. A stronger one. Because there’s a thread running through every story we’ve touched today… every season of struggle, every moment of uncertainty:
JOSEPH was thrown into a pit and sold into slavery — yet that pit was the first step toward the palace.
GEORGE WASHINGTON CARVER said it best:
“God is going to reveal to us things He never revealed before if we put our hands in His. No books ever go into my Lab. The thing I AM TO DO and the WAY OF DOING it are revealed to me.
I never have to grope for methods. The method is revealed to me the moment I am inspired to create something new. Without God to draw aside the curtain I would be helpless.”
I love that quote. And I can tell you—I’ve applied that kind of trust in my own life over this past year. And the difference it has made… it’s been astonishing. I don’t walk into situations the same way anymore. I go in believing—knowing—that God will show me what I am to do. And He does.
I’m learning that I don’t have to strive for the answer… or force the direction. In time, He provides it. And I’ll be honest—this past year has required a lot of decisions. Big ones.
There were moments I would pull out a whiteboard, NOT KIDDING _ trying to map everything out… trying to force clarity. I was trying to control the outcome.
I thought the answer had to be A or B.
But then I came across a Scripture from Isaiah that I’ll get to in a minute —and it changed everything.
Sometimes it wasn’t choice A or B at all. Sometimes it was C—something I never would have seen on my own. Something that wasn’t even in my calculations.
And just as Carver— who stopped bringing books into the lab…
I put away the whiteboard. And it changed everything.
And as each seemingly insurmountable decision needed to be made – I grew in confidence that the next step would be available to me.
It’s all about timing and resting and trusting. Things that were always difficult for someone like me who is - well OCD in many ways. I ALWAYS NEEDED to get it done. AND get it done NOW.
The resting was something I needed. Not just for my soul but for my mind and well-being as well. I am NOT called upon to know my direction. I am called upon to allow God to illuminate my steps so I may find my direction.
SO HERE IS THAT SCRIPTURE FROM ISAIAH 30:15:
“For thus said the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel, “In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength. But you were unwilling.”
I love that quote. I can tell you I have applied that trusting into my life now. And the difference it has made is astonishing. I am never disappointed. I go into situations KNOWING that God will show me what I am to do. And He does.
This world is so noisy. The difficulties can seem overwhelming. But here is the key to overcoming our struggles and our circumstances: Be quiet and trust. That is when the strength comes in – in our quietness and trust. It’s our faith in knowing that He’s got this. I can tell you – this is a great truth.
Faith doesn’t just help us survive adversity — it redefines it.
It reminds us that the setback isn’t punishment, it’s preparation.
That our trials don’t mean God has left us — they mean He’s building something deeper in us.
So wherever you are right now—maybe facing something that feels final, or a season that feels endless—remember:
You’re not stuck. You’re being shaped. And in that season return to God. Really return. And rest.
God is still in the details.
And what tried to break you may become what God uses to bless someone else.
The truth is that resilience isn’t about bouncing back.
It’s about trusting forward. It’s about standing in faith when the outcome isn’t clear, believing that what He began in you, He will bring to completion.
Because setbacks aren’t final. Not when God is still writing your story.
I’ll leave you with this reminder — no matter what’s behind you or ahead of you:
If you still have breath, you still have purpose.
The plans He has for you are for good and not for evil. Plans to give you a hope and a future.
